The Edge/Sports Training Village, The University of Bath

About the Fair

The Schools Fair is on Friday 15 March (9:30am-3:30pm) for Year 5 to 8 students. (Year 5/6 students can attend the fair and take part in the interactive stands and Year 7/8 students can present a stand.)

Schools can bring a group of students up to the University of Bath to visit the fair and not only can students meet people demonstrating science but, they will also get to see a university.

The fair will be made up of around 30-40 different stands where the students can get hands-on with science. These stands will be run by University of Bath staff and students, local science businesses, other universities and, unique to Bath Taps into Science, school students.

Apply for your free transport

In the past we have offered free transport for schools to come to the University of Bath for the Schools Fair. This year we have a very limited budget which means we can only support a very limited number of schools to attend the Schools Science Fair. Priority will be given to schools who have a high number of students who meet our widening participation criteria:

  • High numbers of students on free school meals (above 10%)
  • High numbers of students whose parents have not gone to university
  • High numbers of students who live in a low participation neighbourhood

To apply for your free transport please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Deadline for applications for transport is Friday 18th January 2019.

We will then assess all the applications and inform all applicants as soon as possible. The transport for the successful schools will be booked by the Bath Taps into Science team.

Before your visit to Bath Taps

Booking form: Please complete the booking form as fully as possible before returning it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. If you know if any of your students meet any of the WP criteria, please ensure you list it on the booking form. It doesn’t matter if your students do not meet the criteria, but it is important for us to be able to justify our funding.

Lunch: Unfortunately we cannot provide lunch for staff or students. If you are going to be at the University during lunch time please ensure you bring packed lunches. Space will be provided for your group to be able to sit and eat your lunch.

Clothing: Schools can choose whether students wear school uniform or not, although it is advisable as it does make identifying students easier.

Venue: Although the Sports Hall is an enclosed area it is still open to members of the public and we are expecting that many people from the University will also wish to visit the Science Fair. Please ensure that your pupils are supervised in groups.

Access issues / Disabilities: Please let us know on the booking form if any of your students has additional needs, such as access issues. This is so that we can ensure that provisions are made accordingly and those students have a good time.

Transport: Applications can be made for free transport. Unfortunately we cannot fund everyone’s travel and as a result, if you are unsuccessful you will have to source your own transport to the University of Bath.

Getting to the University: To find out how to get to the University of Bath look at our campus and city maps.

Photographs: There will be press coverage of the event, and photographers will be present. We also may take photographs for our own publicity/accountability purposes. Whilst we will not name any children in any way, photographers from the press may ask for the children’s first name and school. We would be grateful if you could make parents/carers aware of this and specifically ask for their permission. If permission is not given for students to have their photos taken please inform us on the booking form and we will ensure they are given something subtle so that any photographer organised by the Bath Taps team know not to photograph them. We cannot guarantee that students will not appear in the back of photos from other members of staff from other schools.

Data Protection: Student details will be used by the University of Bath to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Bath Taps into Science. The information will be stored confidentially by the University under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998. Where information is used in reports all student information will be anonymous. For evaluation purposes only data may be shared with third party higher education organisations such as the Higher Education Access Tracker which links outreach participants with their higher education outcomes through UCAS data.  All analysis is anonymised.
