17:00 - 18:00

University Of Bath

The networks of the brain show highly rhythmical activity in both wake and sleep. These rhythms are enormously important for determining how we think and act, and how quickly we accomplish these processes. I want to explore one area  in which brain rhythms are extremely important. We all posses an internal SatNav system that allows us to find our way around in familiar and novel environments and I will discuss how certain brain rhythms are essential for setting up this navigational system and modifying it to help us navigate our daily lives.

Professor Roland Jones is a Pharmacology Professor at the University of Bath. He is interested in synchrony and oscillations in brain networks in health and disease. His research focuses on the control of synchrony in neuronal networks of temporal lobe brain structures. In particular he is interested in how network activity is altered in epilepsy, and how abnormal network activity in epilepsy may be repaired by anticonvulsant drugs.
